I’m in the college, and what now?: From difficulties to overcome strategies

Abstract

Introduction: The life in college is full of challenges, especially in the daily routine. Aim: This study has as objective to identify the occupational path of occupational therapy students in a Brazilian university since their entrance, the changes in daily life and health noticed by them, as well as the strategies used in their lives to overcome the problems found. Methodology: For this, a field study was made with occupational therapy students, using interviews. The answers has been classified on three categories: occupational path, health and subjects’ extrinsic factors. Results: Main results are related with rough daily life changes, hard weight changes, sleeping difficulties, mental health problems, difficulties on the relationship between students and professors, and leaving leisure activities. Conclusion: The advanced research linked the studies on scientific literature, causing focused life changes, such as strategies to identify critical moments and possibilities to overcome those problems lived, during their lives in university, that interfere students’ occupational path.

Regina Céli Fonseca Ribeiro, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Possui graduação em Terapia Ocupacional pela Faculdade de Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (1984), mestrado em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2003) e doutorado em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2017). Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais e Diretora do Núcleo de Acessibilidade e Inclusão da UFMG. Tem experiência na área de Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional, com ênfase em Terapia Ocupacional em Saúde Mental, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: saúde mental, terapia ocupacional, oficinas em saúde mental, reabilitação psicossocial e concurso publico.
